Protection of the upgraded BMP-3 can be enhanced due to installation of auxiliary armour shields, protection system against high-precision weapons, ERA kits and defensive aids suits.

The Arena-E defensive aids suite ensures protection against guided and unguided antitank missiles and antitank grenades.

The Shtora-1 protection system against high-precision weapons provides protection of the upgraded BMP-3 against antitank guided missiles illuminated by laser and artillery weapons fitted with a laser rangefinder based fire control system.

The add-on explosive reactive armour kit ensures protection of the vehicle against antitank hollow charge projectiles.
